SIVABALAN SANKARAN was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1989 and has been in practice since then in Brunei and Malaysia.

He is a highly regarded senior contracts, commercial and litigation lawyer and in his early practice was a highly-experienced insurance lawyer having been retained by major insurance companies for a variety of matters involving areas of insurance including marine, damage claims, fire and general insurance matters. He has also represented insurance companies from Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and Netherlands in the drafting of policies, and advice on corporate restructuring, mergers and more.

He worked with international counsel on numerous arbitrations including construction and international commercial contract-related arbitration and is now focused on the Construction sector in Malaysia.

He represents multinational clients in a wide range of other litigious matter including insolvency, building contracts and construction disputes, land disputes, landlord and tenant matters, banking and finance litigation, and defamation. He has appeared in the courts in Malaysia and Brunei both at first instance and appellate level at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court in Malaysia and at the Court of Appeal in Brunei. He has also appeared as expert witness on Brunei law in the High Court in Singapore.

Mr Sankaran was listed in Chambers for Business law in Brunei. He is a Fellow of the Malaysian Society of Adjudicators, a Fellow of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution, a member of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators as well as an acrcedited Arbitrator and Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (formerly known as KLRCA).

THARMINI PARAMASIVAN was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2011 and has been in practice since then.

She completed her pupilage at Messrs Jasbeer, Nur & Lee. She was exposed to various general litigation matters including but not limited to patent disputes, goods sold delivered and land disputes.

She then joined Messrs Ching Ling Hau & Partners and continued her practice in general litigation whereby she has appeared on behalf of individuals and companies on land disputes involving unlawful land encroachments and debt recovery.

She joined Messrs Ong Kok Bin & Co in 2013. She has appeared in the High Court and Lower Courts representing banking institutions, companies and private individuals. She has assisted in preparing for trial and appeals before the Appeal Courts in relation to a general disputes and corporate disputes. She has gained experience in banking litigation, debt recovery and execution proceedings (bankruptcy, winding up proceedings, public auctions, seizure and sale, judgement debtor summons). She has gained experience in handling the sale and purchase of properties with and without titles and in this respect drafts and vets Sale and Purchase Agreements and Deeds of Assignments and other related documents. She then continued her practice with Messrs Lai & Associates before joining Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners in December 2015.

Currently she is undertaking arbitration, adjudication and litigation matters related to construction industry. She has gained considerable knowledge on CIPAA since joining Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners. She is an accredited Adjudicator with AIAC.

WONG HAI WAI was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1986 and has been in practice since then specialising in trial court experience including appellate work. He completed his pupilage with Messrs Manjit Singh Sachet, Mohammad Radii & Partners and thereafter joined the firm of Messrs Megat Najmuddin Leong & Partners.

In 1989 he joined Messrs T. H. Su & Co and he was the partner in-charge of litigation department. The main areas of his work are in banking recovery work, insolvency, co-operative societies and construction disputes and arbitration.

He set up his own firm of Messrs Wong Hai Wai & Associates in 1997 specialising in drafting contracts, construction disputes and contract management. The main areas of his work center on construction disputes and arbitrations with the collorary action in court for applications for injunctions against calls for guarantees and performance bonds, applications for leave to enforce arbitral awards, applications to set aside arbitral awards, applications to stay court proceedings, applications to remove arbitrators.

In 2009 he joined Messrs Tan Swee Im, P.Y. Hoh & Tai [now known as Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners] as a consultant.

LEEM LAY GIAN

LEEM LAY GIAN was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2008 and has been in practice since then.  

She joined Messrs C. L. Boo & Associates, Batu Pahat in 2008 and was assigned to conduct general civil litigation matters such as foreclosure proceedings, bankruptcy proceedings, joint or unilateral divorce petition, petition for Grant of Probate / Grant of Letters of Administration, Small Estate Distribution applications, claims for goods sold and delivered to name but a few. She also handled conveyancing matters. 

Subsequently, in August 2011, Ms. Leem joined Messrs Wang & S. B. Wong, specialising in all sorts of conveyancing practice including sale and sub-sale of properties, land dealing, commercial and corporate loan, perfection of transfer and charge, preparation of tenancy agreements, will writing and more. She was involved in some renowned development projects namely Country Garden, Danga Bay; Tropez Residences, Danga Bay; Bora Residences, Danga Bay; KSL Residences, Taman Century; Twin Galaxy Residences, Jalan Dato Abdullah Tahir; and Seasons Apartment, Larkin all of which are located in Johor Bahru.

At the same time, she has been assigned to handle loans from following banks such as Alliance Bank (Malaysia) Berhad / Alliance Islamic Bank Berhad, Ambank (M) Berhad, Bank of China, CIMB Bank Berhad / CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, Hong Leong Bank Berhad / Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad / Maybank Islamic Berhad, Malaysia Building Society Berhad, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad / OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad, Public Bank Berhad / Public Islamic Bank Berhad, RHB Bank Berhad, Standard Chartered Bank Berhad, and United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Berhad .

She then continued her practice with Messrs Tan Vincent & Azmi before joining Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners in February 2017.

 

LEONARD RAJ

LEONARD RAJ holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the the University of London and obtained his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2012. He then served as Federal Counsel at the Attorney General's Chambers, Putrajaya. On 3rd January 2014, he was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and commenced legal practice in the state of Penang where he primarily focused on civil and corporate disputes, employment and industrial relations matters, professional negligence matters involving Advocates & Solicitors, public interest and criminal/quasi-criminal litigation. He has conducted matters in all tiers of the Malaysian Courts and quasi-judicial tribunals.

Leonard Raj joined Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners in January 2020 and works in the dispute resolution and alternative dispute resolution department of the firm.

 

 

 

GOK CHIA WEN

GOK CHIA WEN was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2016.

She completed her pupilage with Messrs JK Lim. She was exposed to general litigation matters including contract disputes, defamation and probate disputes.

Upon completion of pupillage, she joined Messrs Arthur Wang, Lian & Associates. Whilst there, she has assisted in civil litigation matters such as debt recovery, tenancy disputes and execution proceedings (bankruptcy and winding up proceedings).

She then continued in Messrs CW Loh & Associates before joining Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners in September 2017.
Currently, she is undertaking arbitration, adjudication and litigation matters related to construction industry.

 

 

 

 

KATHLEEN DANG

KATHLEEN DANG graduated with a LL.B (Hons) First Class Honours Degree in Law from the University of Liverpool in 2016 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2018.

She completed her pupillage with Messrs Syed Alwi, Ng & Co where she was exposed to general civil litigation matters such as Bankruptcy proceedings, foreclosure proceedings, debt recovery and personal injury cases.

She was also involved in conveyancing matters including Sale & Purchase of Properties, Housing Loan, Discharge of Charge, Perfection of Transfer and Charge, Will writing and more.

She joined Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners in December 2018. Currently, she is undertaking both litigation and conveyancing matters.

 

 

PONNUSAMY RAMAN

Ponnusamy Raman obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree from University Technology Malaysia, Skudai Johor in 1995. Thereafter he worked in the building and power plant to oil and gas industry (downstream and upstream) projects for the next 24 years. He rose from the rank of graduate mechanical engineer to various capacities till his last position as project Manager.

He is well verse in project management in Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) projects. His experience and knowledge acquired in managing EPCC projects qualified him to be certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), a certification awarded by Project Management Institute (PMI) in the USA. In his course of managing projects, he has dealt with clients like TNB, Alstom, IHI, Toshiba, Esso, Petronas Carigali, Talisman, Bumi Armada, HHI, Leighton, SBM, Pertamina and Husky-CNOOC Indonesia. He acquired adequate and essential understanding in project planning, managing engineering and procurement works until handling over projects.

While working in projects, he read law part time and graduated with a LLB Second Class (Upper Division) in August 2018 from University of London. He then proceeded to complete his Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) in October 2019.

He completed his pupilage at Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva and Partners. He is currently involved in construction and and commercial litigation in the firm.

 

 
 
WENNY HEW CHAI WEN

WENNY HEW graduated with a LL.B (Hons) Degree in Law from the University Utara Malaysia in 2019 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2021.

She joined and completed her pupilage with Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners where she was exposed to general civil litigation matters such as bankruptcy proceedings, employment and industrial relations matters, debt recovery, divorce matters, contract disputes and estate matters. She was also involved in conveyancing matters inter alia sale & purchase of properties, Will writing and general advisory.

She remained at Messrs Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners after admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and currently, she practices both litigation and conveyancing.
